TIPS FOR A GREAT SETTLEMENT
When you come to sign the final papers for the settlement of the sale of your home, you will probably leave keys, discuss the final details with your realtor and perhaps drink a toast. Sometimes that setting is filled with tension and pressure as you work out important aspects of the transaction at the last minute.
How can you help make your transaction a relaxed and happy one? First, try to get the fine points worked out ahead of time with your real estate agent. There may be a few unresolved issues, such as repairs that were not completed, a disappearing dining room chandelier or an occupancy agreement. The atmosphere doesn't need to become adversarial, and minor upsets should not threaten the transaction. If you anticipate a problem, no matter how minor it may seem, be sure to communicate the situation to your Realtor in advance, so that it can be handled before the date of title transfer.
